The Call

EVANGELIST’S RESPONSE TO THE CHURCH’S CALL

The following are guidelines for you to consider when finalizing a call from the local church.

Be thoughtful and reply whether you accept or decline the invitation.

If you accept the invitation, express your personal anticipation of the meeting. Give expected time of arrival and any details connected with your coming such as special diets, needs, etc.

Arrive on time. If a delay is absolutely unavoidable, be certain to telephone ahead to inform them. Graciously thank your host and/or hostess for the accommodations provided, and then adjust, trying not to affect a change.

Be prepared to go over your plans for the meeting with the pastor. Be flexible, remembering you are there to have revival and to meet the needs of people, not to put on a program.

WORSHIP

SONG EVANGELIST: Start on time. Sing enthusiastically, leading the choir and congregation with a sense of excitement and anticipation. Participation and involvement by the people make the service effective. Limit your conversation to necessary comments, but be vibrant. Pray that your "specials" will be anointed by the Holy Spirit and in keeping with the theme of the message. We are workers together with Christ for revival, not entertainment. Be sure to leave adequate room in the service for the message and invitation.

EVANGELIST: After you are introduced, be ready to move right into the message God has given you. Your message should be biblically centered, people-oriented, and spiritually enthusiastic. Pray for God’s anointing and ask for special wisdom in coming to a persuasive climax. Remember, it is His message that we need for revival.

PERSONAL REVIVAL

Evangelists themselves need a time of revival and spiritual renewal. Because of this need, The Evangelist Network hosts the Evangelists’ Gathering each year. The Gathering is a special time of fellowship, encouragement of God’s call on your life, and ministry to your heart. Plan to attend the next Evangelists’ Gathering!

MERCHANDISE

Some evangelists have extended their ministries through writing and/or recording sermons and songs. These are a blessing to our people. Please do not oversell or overexpose your merchandise. We are in revival to lift up Christ and to lead people to a high level of spiritual vibrancy. Permission should be secured for a display in the foyer and brief mention of merchandise should be made once or twice a week.

CANCELLATIONS

Three parties are involved when canceling a revival - the pastor, the church board, and the evangelist. Let no one be hurt by a hasty decision. Be considerate and pray for divine guidance. Here are some suggestions:

  • Unavoidable illness or a death in the family may make it necessary to cancel. Notify the pastor or church board as soon as possible. Give opportunity for rescheduling.
  • Christian ethics are demonstrated by caring for all expenses incurred, including advertising costs, if the cancellation comes on short notice.

May God bless you as you faithfully and graciously serve Him in your vital role as an Evangelist and a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
